Music Matters - Albums to start the year with

For the musically unaware (:

Just a few albums to start the year with.

1. Continuum by John Mayer
- "Slow Dancing In a Burning Room" and "Heart of Life" coupled with the smoother than smooth "Gravity" makes this album a must listen to.
- A heavier sound compared to his earlier albums, a more mature sound.

2. ElizabethTown the OST by Various Artists
- Imagine an album with everything you can think of , from Elton John's early works to the smooth country harmonisations of East MountainSide. A great piece of chill music.
- Watch the movie, then get the soundtrack and then fall in love with Kirsten Dunst... again.

3. Any album by Vienna Teng
- Not a mandarin album.
- Often compared to Corinne May, Vienna has a smoother country feel to her music.
- Listen to "City Hall", a song describing the beauty and romanticism of a couple that is traveling down to get married.
- For the romantics out there.

4. So Much More by Brett Dennen
- An album for the rainy day, or a cool night.
- Acoustic guitar + A sad voice. What more do you need?
- If you like Damien Rice, try this.

5. Philips, Craig and Dean
- An underrated album that deserves more hype
- Has great songs like "Let my words be few", "You are God Alone"

Thanks to Rav and Boot for the introductions to some of the albums. Enjoy the ride.

Frustrations to Address

Why do we sometimes if not most of the time go through a dry spell in our spiritual lives?
Is it something that has happened because of sin?
Why do we stray or feel far from God? Are our prayers reaching Him?

Many of these times are what God actually uses to strengthen our faith and walk with Him. If there were no dry periods in our lives, i would advise us to question our faith on its genuiness.

God leads us to a place of spiritual abundance but oftentimes the journey is marked with difficulty and suffering.
The psalmist writes:

"For you Oh God tested us,
you refined us like silver.
You brought us into prison
and laid burdens on our backs.

You let men ride over our heads,
we went through fire and water
but you brought us to the place of abundance."

Psalm 66:10-12

Successfully walking through diffculty is a necessary part of becoming mature.

Help me to question myself and the lessons that i can learn through the difficult times, and may wisdom and maturity be granted me, Oh Lord.
